Welcome to IGN's Walkthrough for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Main Quest - Captured Memories, which is in fact a completely optional quest.

With the Sheikah Slate’s Album functioning, Impa will tell you that twelve pictures in the album were taken by Princess Zelda herself, and may be the key to unlocking your memories, as you were likely present there too. To unlock these memories, you’ll need to travel across Hyrule in search of these landmarks with only the clues in the photos to guide you.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a new type of collectible are Memories that Link can obtain in his journeys. After speaking to Purah in Hateno Village during the Locked Mementos Quest, you'll learn from Impa that Princess Zelda took several pictures in the Sheikah Slate, and each location is tied to your memories of her. Finding each location is necessary in order to complete the (completely optional) Captured Memories main quest.

In order to find and view Memories, you must search for the locations based on the visual clues in your Sheikah Slate Album. Pikango the painter, found at various stables and towns throughout Hyrule, can offer additional clues. He is found at the town or stable closest to the memory on the map. He will only be available during the day time.

Upon arriving at the correct destination, you'll find a glowing spot that will trigger the memory, unlocking it for you.

Can I Rewatch Memories?

Yes, you can rewatch the Captured Memories after collecting them by pressing the - (minus) button to go to the Adventure Log and selecting Memories on the far right.

Memory #1: Subdued Ceremony

• Location: Sacred Ground Ruins, Central Hyrule
• Pikango Clue: Woodland Stable

The photo in question shows a location in Central Hyrule not far from Hyrule Castle itself. In fact, the location is just South of the castle, located in the spot known as the Sacred Ground Ruins, where a small pool of water surrounds a dais now patrolled by a Guardian. So long as you are quick and quiet, you should be able to reach the site of the memory in the center to trigger the flashback.

Memory #3: Resolve and Grief

• Pikango Clue: Riverside Stable, Great Hyrule Forest Region

The second photo in the album shows a lakeside location in Central Hyrule that’s not far from the Great Plateau. From the Plateau Tower, float down North to the large lake, and head along the West bank to find a small raised ridge. The place is largely clear of enemies so you shouldn’t have trouble getting to the memory location.

Memory #5: Zelda’s Resentment

The third photo in the album depicts a shrine among ruins with the Divine Beast Vah Medoh circling in the distance. It’s located just across the Tabantha Great Bridge past the stable. After crossing the bridge, you need to climb the large ridge to the South and beware of the Moblins who make their home here until you reach the Tena Ko’sah Shrine, and you’ll find the memory right in front.

Memory #7: Blades of the Yiga

• Pikango Clue: Gerudo Canyon Stable

This fourth photo shows a desert oasis, and is located in plain sight on the road to Gerudo Town. Just stop by at the Kara Kara Bazaar, the oasis located before the town, and look around the water’s edge to find the memory.

Memory #8: A Premonition

• Pikango Clue: Gordon City

The fifth photo depicts a shot of the area overlooking the Great Hyrule Forest, where the Woodland Tower stands in the present. It is located high in Eldin Canyon on the far Western edge of the mountains - just to the East of the Woodland Tower. You can find it by climbing to a peak West of the Goronbi Lake, and fight through Lizalfos to find a clear plateau with a ring of small stones overlooking the tower, and the memory is found just in front of the stones.

Memory #9: Silent Princess

• Pikango Location: Serenne Stable, Great Hyrule Forest

The sixth photo in the album depicts a grassy field overlooking Hyrule Castle from the West side. The location is across the river from Hyrule Castle, to the Northeast of the Ridgeland Tower, just past the Royal Ancient Lab Ruins, where a large tree stands around pools of water. The memory can be found in front of the tree.

Memory #11: Shelter from the Storm

• Location: West Necluda, Dueling Peaks
• Pikango Clue: Highland Stable

The seventh photo in the album shows a shot of the Bridge of Hylia with the Gerudo Highlands in the far distance, putting the photo on the East bank. You can find it near the Northern end of the lake along the East side, just across the river from Scout’s Hill. Look for a large tree with two small statues sheltered underneath up on a small hill, and the memory location is nearby.

Memory #12: Father and Daughter

• Location: Hyrule Castle, Central Hyrule
• Pikango Clue: Lurelin Village, Faron

This eighth picture in the album depicts the entrance to Princess Zelda’s Room in Hyrule Castle seen in better times, and as such is one of the harder memories to locate.

Your best chance is to infiltrate Hyrule Castle from the West side, and look for a tall spire North of the gatehouses up on a high level to the side of the main castle itself.

If you can bypass the Guardians below, you’ll only have one Flying Guardian patrolling the tower to worry about as you make a dash for the walkway between the spire and collapsed room on the other side.

Memory #13: Slumbering Power

• Pikango Clue: East Akkala Stable

The ninth picture in the album shows a watery spring with a statue flanked by two trees - located in the Spring of Power, one of three mystical springs in Hyrule.

This spring in particular is located between the Akkala Highlands and Deep Akkala, just to the South of North Akkala Valley. Look around for a large pool of water and you’ll find the memory in front of the water’s edge.

Memory #14: To Mount Lanayru

The tenth picture in the album depicts a large statue of a horse that stands out pretty well. It’s found on the road going through Hyrule Ridge, West across the river from the Central Tower. Look for the road to the East of Satori Mountain to find the park at the top of a large hill, where the memory is found near the statue.

Memory 15 - Return of Calamity Ganon

• Location: Lanayru Road - East Gate, Necluda
• Pikango Clue: Kakariko Village

The eleventh picture in the album depicts a large gate on a road. This can be found up in the Lanayru pass that’s part of Lanayru Heights.

You can get here fairly straight forward by leaving Kakariko Village via the hills above, past the Great Fairy Fountain before finding a road on the right. This passage leads through the promenade that’s full of Bokoblins and ends with a Moblin guarding the East Gate, where you’ll find the memory by a large arch.

Memory #16: Despair

• Pikango Clue: Wetland Stable

The twelfth and final picture in the initial album showcases a fairly generic looking forested road. This area is located on the Eastern banks of Central Hyrule, along the Hylia River. You can find this forested area North of the Bottomless Swamp, just down the hill and across the river from the Wetland Stable. Search around the small clearing in the forest to find the memory piece.

Memory #17: Zelda's Awakening

• Main Quest Memory

• Location: Fort Hateno, Dueling Peaks

This memory is initially not listed in the Sheikah Slate's album, and requires you to find all of Zelda's other memories first. You can then see the picture of a large battlefield full of Guardians on Impa's wall. This is located not far from Kakariko Village, at the large wall called Fort Hateno that leads into Necluda. Look around the large battlefield and you will find the spot near the center by large pools of water.

After finding any one of the memories, return to Impa in Kakariko Village and she will reward you with the blue Champion's Tunic.
