Which of the 5 Famous Joe’s Pizza Spots Has the Best NYC Pizza - Flock The Foodie (1)

The Joe’s Pizza website states, the famous Joe’s Pizza opened up in 1975 by Joe Pozzuoli, who was originally from Naples (no surprise this is the birthplace of pizza). The establishment has since been featured in Spider-man 2 (2004) and filled their walls with photos of visits from countless celebrities of all industries.

Once I found out there were 5 Joe’s Pizza NYC locations, the foodie in me knew I had to try them ALL! To make it fair, I created a few rules for this study of mine.

  1. Plain (but tasty) cheese slices only
  2. Eat each slice warm & fresh out the store
  3. Rate immediately after eating

Not only did I do this for an incentive to a pizza packed day (because who wouldn’t right?), but I mainly did it to help you save your time, your money, and most importantly your taste buds!

This post is all about taking you on a 5 location Joe’s Pizza NYC tour to confirm which one has the best NYC pizza.

Joe's Pizza Reviews By Location For The Best NYC Pizza:

1. Joe's Pizza Greenwich Village (The OG)

Only right we start with the original Joe's Pizza location. Despite it being crowded, there was no wait. Of course to reiterate, it had to be a plain cheese slice, no garnish, no toppings.

I wanted to be wow’d, but instead I was met with a slightly overcooked base. It happens, so I get it, but it was the majority of the flavor coming through.

All I tasted was char and a bit of that perfectly acidic, sweet tomato Joe's Pizza sauce I love. Unfortunately, this led to the cheese taste falling to the back.

Still better than some NYC pizza spots, but did not live up to the Joe's Pizza hype.

Rating: 6/10

2. Joe's Pizza Union Square

Now we’re talking Joe's pizza! You know we love that sweet tomato Joe's Pizza sauce. Despite also being on the thinner side all the flavors came through.

Good amount of cheese with an Insta-worthy cheese pull that falls right on your chin. Combine that with perfectly spread sauce that didn't over power the pizza and was bursting in every bite!

Rating: 8/10

3. Joe's Pizza Fulton Street

I underestimated this location due to how it looked, but it was one of the better slices. Even the actual slice didn't look too appealing before they tossed it in the oven.

It was crispy, but not excessive. I didn’t taste a speckle of oven char. The cheese was coming through well and was warm, melty (if that’s a word) and well cheesy.

However, I wish it had more of that Joe's Pizza sauce that I love. Good perfectly thin slice that held it's own, but just needed a tiny bit more sauce.

Rating: 8/10

4. Joe's Pizza Times Square

Yup! That's the line I was on for about 10 minutes in the rain (I do it all for you guys lol). It could easily be a longer wait on a sunny summer day.

This one didn't have as much of a bitter char taste like the Greenwich slice, but it was over cooked. When Char is the thing you taste most, it def takes away from the experience.

Sauce was coming through well, (again I LOVE Joe's Pizza sauce). But, not only could I not taste the cheese, there was 0 cheese pull.

Some may argue it was not worth the foot traffic.

Rating: 6.5/10

5. Joe's Pizza Williamsburg (Best)

I saved the Joe's Pizza near me for last and it did not disappoint!!

I couldn’t give any negative points. It was perfectly cooked, enough cheese for it to fall and almost burn you (YES, this is a good thing).

I could always go for more of the Joe's Pizza sauce but it had just enough and folded perfectly in two as a NYC slice should.

There was a bit of a line and even after eating 4 other slices today, it was totally worth it. This could easily be the best pizza in Brooklyn, i even took one to go.

Rating: 9.2/10
